IAQ are delighted to have carried out the indoor air quality monitoring COSHH assessment for the domestic waste transfer station in Ruislip, London.

Dust monitoring for Workplace Exposure Limits

Our team were commissioned to undertake the indoor air quality monitoring COSHH (Caution Of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessment for a waste transfer station.

Project Outline

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) consultants were requested to undertake dust monitoring and analysis for comparison with Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) during the operation of Ruislip Waste Transfer Station. As part of the operation of the waste transfer station there is the potential to expose their employees and visitors to harmful air borne pollution, particularly particulates from dust generating activities and from diesel powered HGVs and NRMM.

Our Role

Our Dust Monitoring Report considered not only the particulate concentrations measured at different indoor, outdoor and partially enclosed locations at the Waste Transfer Station but considered what substances were likely to be making up the measured particulates. The exposure during the working day for different members of staff, carrying out different roles in different locations was considered throughout the whole of each site.

Our assessments did not identify any breaches of the WELs or any otherwise especially concerning exposures. However, some mitigation measures were recommended to protect staff members. These recommendations included the provision of dust masks for especially dusty activities and wet sweeping to be used instead of dry sweeping where possible.
